WINNING IN ONE-DESIGNS: ALBIN EXPRESS

Despite all the tightened Corona virus precautions, the Albin Express one-design season opener took place in beautiful Vejle, Denmark, May 8-9, 2021. Albin Express was designed by Peter Norlin and inspired by the popular J/24. Albin Marin AB produced around 2000 of these 25-foot one-designs since 1979, with most of the boats racing in Scandinavia.

With perfect organization and hospitality, the crew sailing with Jan Brink aboard his Albin Express FRÄULEIN P raced convincingly on both days against a strong Danish fleet. The conditions were perfect despite the somewhat cold temperatures; the wind was not for the faint of heart. On average it blew between 10 and 15 knots with gusts as well as extended wind holes. The race committee had scheduled up to 11 races over the two days. In the 10 races sailed, FRÄULEIN P won the series with scores of 3, 1, 1, 3, 2, 1, 4, 1, 2, 1 to finish 7 points ahead of the second-place boat.

Thanks to the newly developed UK Sailmakers 2021 MK-4 sail designs, FRÄULEIN P proved her potential in the Albin Express. These new sails from UK Sailmakers hit the bull’s eye once again and continue to prevail against the strong competition.

Because of the restrictions of Covid, after the post race dinner on Saturday night, the crew of FRÄULEIN P drove home to Flensburg, Germany, to avoid having to quarantine. On Sunday morning they drove back to Vejle, Denmark to finish the series. Congratulations to the FRÄULEIN P and the whole crew.
